Esports and conventional sports are two things that have many similarities. Both of them need high expertise if they want to be competed at a professional level, and to achieve this can only be with dedication and discipline. For esports or team sports, communication and leadership are crucial elements that must be possessed. The United States armed forces even see sports similar to military science.
Because of these similarities, it is not surprising that esports teams collaborate with sports teams. For example Vici Gaming (VG), an esports team from China who some time ago announced a strategic bond with the Shanghai International Port Group F.C football club. (SIPG).
In a press conference held at Vici Gaming headquarters, the two organizations explained that their collaboration would begin with the game Kings of Glory (Chinese version of Arena of Valor). Together with Shanghai SIPG, Vici Gaming will work to promote integration between esports and conventional sports. While from the Shanghai SIPG side, they want to increase the diversity of fans and increase the number by attracting esports enthusiasts.
“Because the Chinese team won the Arena of Valor championship at the 2018 Asian Games, esports is now widely known and accepted by the public, and esports will be watched as much as traditional sports in the future,” Ding Jun, founder of Vici Gaming, was quoted by Esports Insider.
“By the end of 2018, VG had succeeded in returning to the highest official professional league of Kings of Glory, the King Pro League (KPL), and VG hoped that the esports team could learn about the management and operating model of the traditional sports used by Shanghai SIPG. With the launch of this partnership, VG hopes that our team can achieve great success in the MPA and become a league leader like Shanghai SIPG, “Ding Jun continued.
In China, both Vici Gaming and Shanghai SIPG are both seen as giant organizations that excel. Some time ago Vici Gaming won the runner-up at the 2018 ESL One Hamburg tournament, also won several prestigious tournaments in China. While Shanghai SIPG just won the Chinese Super League at the end of 2018.
Collaboration between two giants like this will certainly attract attention, and it is also likely to make sponsors more interested in approaching the two teams. Exposure obtained will be much greater, especially Vici Gaming is not only famous in China but also globally.
Vici Gaming is not the first Chinese esports team to work with the soccer team. Previously, LGD Gaming had done the same thing with the French team, Paris Saints-Germain, and now the team is known as PSG.LGD. Inter-club ties like this make the line between esports and conventional sports thinner, and maybe we will see more similar cooperation in the future.
